Following the recommendations made by the National Preventive Mechanism (NPM) in the Report on the visit to the Kikinda Reception Centre for migrants, the Centre for Social Work (CSW) in Kikinda, with the support of the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), provided two experts, who are in charge of the receipt and care of unaccompanied migrant minors. In cooperation with UNICEF, specialized training for treatment of underage migrants was organized for field experts and CSW Kikinda officers. At the same time, on the basis of an assessment of the need for custody, nine minors were placed under temporary custody.
Since the visit of the NPM, the number of migrants living in tents in the yard has been reduced, and it is planned that all migrants will be accommodated exclusively in the Reception Center building. In order to ensure adequate hygienic conditions in the Center, the Commissariat for Refugees and Migration addressed international organizations for assistance.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs informed the NPM that there are no persons in this Center who wish to seek asylum in Serbia.
The NPM visited the Kikinda Reception Centre on May 19, about which a Report was made with recommendations for elimination of observed shortcomings.
