District Prison in Vranje, acting on the recommendations of the National Preventive Mechanism, increased the accommodation capacity of the department for detained persons, allowing each detainee statutory minimum space and the bedroom on the ground floor adapted to the needs of persons with disabilities. Also, the Prison informed Ombudsman that it hires interpreters to provide relevant information to detained foreigners.

District Prison in Vranje is an example of good practice of cooperation with the National Preventive Mechanism, bearing in mind that the Prison acted to all the addressed recommendations in due course and that in the past period has made efforts to effectively correct the identified deficiencies.

National Preventive Mechanism team visited the District Prison in Vranje on 08 November 2016 and made the Report with recommendations of measures to correct the identified deficiencies and to improve the treatment of persons deprived of their liberty.
