The Commissariat for Refugees and Migration informed the Protector of Citizens that, in accordance with the recommendation of the NPM, they established the record of extraordinary events in the Subotica Reception Centre, for which the NPM considers important for proper reaction to the events in the migrants’ accommodation centres. In addition, in the Reception Centre begun the works on the roof over the room which will be used as a dining room and for the social activities of the migrants who are staying here.

At the same time, the City of Subotica Centre for Social Work responded to the Protector of Citizens that four field workers used to work with minor migrants in the Reception Centre until August 2017. Now, professional workers are present in the Reception Centre only after invitation and notification from the actors on the ground. As pointed out, the protection of juvenile migrants is hampered by insufficient resources and increased workload, which is why they contacted the Ministry of Labour, Employment, Veteran and Social Affairs.

The NPM team visited the Subotica Reception Centre, as well as the Horgoš and Kelebija border crossings, on November 21 and 22, 2017, about which it made the Report with recommendations to the competent authorities for improvement the treatment of migrants.
