The Protector of Citizens, in his capacity of the National Preventive Mechanism (NPM), with the support of the OSCE Mission to Serbia and UNHCR, on 27 November 2014 organized “The First South-East European OPCAT Forum” and on 28 November 2014, the Conference "Prevention of torture and other forms of ill-treatment and the fight against impunity". Both events were held in Belgrade.

The Forum gathered around the chairman and several members of the UN Sub-Committee for the Prevention of Torture (SPT), representatives of the European Committee for the Prevention of Torture (CPT) and the Association for the Prevention of Torture (APT), representatives of the 19 NPMs of the European countries, as well as other international institutions and civil society.  The Forum was organized with an aim to establish immediate contact and intensive cooperation between SPT and NPMs, as well as to improve the relationship with CPT and other international institutions, whose aim is the eradication of torture.

Beside the mentioned participants, on the second day to the Conference were joined representatives of the state bodies of the Republic of Serbia, that is from institution where persons are deprived of their liberty and representatives of relevant ministries, courts and prosecutors. The aim of the Conference was to deepen cooperation between national authorities and national mechanisms for the prevention of torture, as well as improving the fight against impunity for torture.
