NPM team, composed of employees of the Ombudsman expert services and medical experts realized in the late evening hours of March 31 (unannounced) monitoring visits to Penal-correctional facility Niš. During the visit, special attention was paid to the persons who were in the group housing in order to investigate the occurrence of torture and other abuses. After midnight, on April 1, team conducted the visit to the Niš Police Department, to examine the living conditions of persons deprived of their liberty and protection from potential abuse. During the same day (April 1) NPM team visited the Special Hospital for Psychiatric Diseases "Gornja Toponica" to examine whether in the hospital implemented the recommendations of the European Committee for the Prevention of Torture.

National Preventive Mechanism, on 30 and 31 March 2015, conducted a visit to the Centre for asylum seekers in Tutin and Sjenica. Visits were conducted in order to continue monitoring the treatment according to the recommendations of the Ombudsman to improve the status of asylum seekers and irregular migrants in the Republic of Serbia.

National preventive mechanism, on 26 and 27 March 2015, conducted a visit to Police Department Cacak to determine the treatment of persons deprived of their liberty, asylum seekers and irregular migrants.


Commissioner for Human Rights Nils Muižnieks, Ombudsman Saša Janković and Deputy Ombudsman Miloš Janković on 17th of March in 2014 visited the Residential centre "Veternik". Director of residential centar Zoran Arbutina briefed the guests on accommodation facilities, number and structure of users and employees in educational and health services. The guests visited the premises, the residents of users, and talked with them and educators about everyday problems that they are facing.

Team of National Preventive Mechanism conduced a visit  on 26th and 27th of February in 2015 to the Police Department of  Kikinda in order to determine the legality and regularity of the treatment of persons deprived of their liberty and to asylum seekers and irregular migrants.
