On June 28, 2019, the National Prevention Mechanism made an unannounced visit to the Home for adults and elderly people in Trbunje to determine the regularity and legality of the work of Home in respect of the rights of the beneficiaries with intellectual and mental disabilities.

The employees of the Home realized full cooperation with the NPM team and enabled him to unhindered fulfill his mandate.

On June 14, 2019, the National Preventive Mechanism made an unannounced visits to the Požarevac Police Department and to the Detention Unit of the Corectional Penitentiary Institute in Pozarevac - Zabela. In addition to the Ombudsman's representatives, the NPM team consisted of representatives of the Committee of Lawyers for Human Rights and an expert - a doctor of the forensic specialist.

With the aim of preventing torture and / or other forms of ill-treatment, special attention was paid to the treatment of police officers toward inmates and detainees. A part of the NPM team visited the detention facility at the police station, while the other part of the team in the Detention Unit of the Penitentiary in Požarevac - Zabeli conducted interviews with detainees.The doctor of the forensic medicine inspected the relevant medical documentation from the first medical examination after the admission of the person in the Institute and the manner of documenting the observed injuries, if any.

Although the visit was unannounced, the cooperation of the authorities with the NPM team was complete and constructive, in which way it was possible to accomplish the NPM mandate in the concrete case.

On May 8, 2019, the National Prevention Mechanism (NPM) conducted a control visit to the prison in Nis in order to follow the recommendations from the Report on the visit of 2017 and to review the actual situation in the prison. During the visit, NPM conducted interviews with representatives of the prison services and visited the premises in the second pavilion for persons deprived of liberty. Besides, the team also conducted unannounced interviews with detainees and persons who have been assigned prosecution custody up to 48 hours under the Code of Criminal Procedure, who are located at the premises of the prison Nis.

All the employees of the prison realized full cooperation with the NPM and enabled him to fulfill his mandate.

On 24 April 2019, the National Preventive Mechanism (NPM) team monitored the forced removal process of a citizens of the People's Republic of China. During short period of time, they were accommodated at the Padinska Skela Reception Center for Foreigners and left the Republic of Serbia with a flight from "Nikola Tesla" Airport Belgrade.

This was the first monitoring of the forced return that NPM had made since the enforcement of the new Law on Foreigners, which regulates the obligation for the NPM to monitor the procedure of the forced removal of foreigners.

On Thursday, February 28, 2019, the National Preventive Mechanism team made an unannounced visit to the Sremska Mitrovica Penal-Correctional Institution. The main goal of this visit was to get an insight into the situation in the reception department, for which NPM during previous visits found to be overpopulated. Apart from the representatives of the Protector of citizens, representatives of the Provincial Ombudsman and the Lawyers' Committee for Human Rights were also part of the NPM team.
